Alright, so I agree. College is NOT for everyone. But a majority that don't go, would be surprised by how much they are missing. College is four years of yes, work, but also a TON of fun. Even a small liberal arts school like Lyndon State can show anyone a good time, you just have to be open-minded and let the journey take you.
Soo... Here are the reasons I believe college is worth it:
- You will meet your significant other. Most of you are probably thinking this person is a love interest, but who I am referring to is your best friend, as in the BEST of all friends. To think we'd all wonder if there was anyone out there that could understand our jokes or sense of humor. 9/10 times this person is at your future school!
- You will grow up. Going to a school that is away from home and out of your comfort zone is scary. But it teaches you a lot about the world, and sometimes it's surprising that only going a few hours away from home is what you have to do to figure this out. Hitting the big 18 does not mean stay at home, and when all of your friends are going to school and moving on from their high school selves, trust me, you will want to do the same thing.
- You'll realize that b*tch in high school wasn't such a b*tch. Or maybe she was. But the point is you will move on from that, and possibly forgive her for all her b*tchy actions. Because hey, none of us really knew who we were back then.
- You will learn to do your laundry. This is a big one. When your mom is gone it's time to put the big boy or girl pants on and get this done. It's a little scary at first, I'll admit. But as long as you remember to separate the lights from the darks, you'll be okay.
- You will actually miss your parents. I know, back in high school you never thought this day would come. But you miss your annoying parents from time to time when you're out and about on your own, and you will also learn to appreciate them when you have them around.
- Christmas break is amazing. A month off from school to do WHATEVER you want? Sounds a hell of a lot better then that measly week off in high school doesn't it? Although a majority of your time will be spent working, the times you do have off feel pretty damn good.
- You will find yourself. Whether you realize the major you picked is something you absolutely hate, or is something you love, educating yourself on a topic you're interested in is important and will help you find the person you want to become.
- Four years sounds long, until it's gone. Thinking you have four more years of education sounds awful when you're a senior in high school, but college is the best four years of your life and is certainly a four years you will never want to miss.
