Fall sports at Lyndon State College are full of hard working athletes, dedicated students and glorious fans. Although Lyndon is not the largest school, the amount of students who play and watch sports at Lyndon is a pretty great number. As a sports enthusiast I love to see the excitement and energy that many different teams provide here at Lyndon.
Even though there is a strong amount of people who pay attention to sports here on campus, there is also a large amount of people who do not, both faculty and students alike. Some people tell me that they would get into sports here on campus but they do not understand the rules of the game being played or perhaps they just don’t get the concept behind why people play sports. However, I am not here to tell you the rules of the games because that would take up quite a bit of time. What I can tell you, for those who want to know how many college sports work is that when teams play, they are either playing a conference opponent or a non-conference opponent. It is important to win as many games as you can but it is most important to try and beat the conference opponent. Why? Well the better record you have in the conference, the greater chance you have at making playoffs. It is a simple as that for many sports.
Why do people even play sports in the first place? Well, there is no direct and perfect answer to this question but from personal experience I can only tell you why I think people play sports. Competition, team work, life lessons and the drive to succeed on and off the field are big reasons why people play sports in my book.
Why do people continue to play sports even with losing records? Here at LSC the fall sports that are going on right now are struggling a bit, with the exception of a few sports some would argue. What is important to point out though is that even with some of our fall sports struggling with their records, this still does not stop the athletes from playing their hearts out and giving it their all. I even see a good number of fans attending sports events and it brings into mind the concept that Lyndon State College is a strong community and even when we are down we still stand with pride. You see, it’s not all about winning but perhaps it’s all about being connected with our peers and being seen as a whole rather than just parts of Lyndon State College.
