AKA: How to get involved on Campus
Let us travel back in time to 2012 when it was the end of the world, which was actually the beginning of a new world called Lyndon State. “Get involved! Participate! Join Clubs! Go to events!” These were the wise words that rang through my ears freshmen year. It seemed easy to do but definitely a challenge when you’re an anti-social quiet person like me. I started out signing up for clubs and joined: paranormal club, community service club, and I might have joined other clubs for a day. I also joined the tennis team. I was very motivated at first with clubs but soon stopped showing up to all of the meetings and got into the habit of binge watching Netflix. It was an easier life this way but the boredom began to grow!
Present day…
The words I heard three years ago rang through my ears over the years like an annoying ringtone. This “annoying ringtone” has changed day by day to a beautiful song. I’ve learned that there are a lot of ways to get involved on campus and I have discovered the hidden secret that never fails! Before I reveal this secret here’s a list of how you can get involved:
Here’s how being involved has effected me.
This year I became a Peer Leader, auditioned for a play, contributing to this blog, started a radio show, finished my last season of tennis, work for College Steps, and continue to volunteer and look for more to do. My schedule is busy and filled with meetings but it’s been amazing! It also keeps the boredom away. I will reveal the secret on how to get involved and never fail at it. The secret is that 90% of being involved on campus is showing up! Now, I’m sure participation fits here somewhere but that’s a different story.

I’ve learned that there are a lot of ways to get involved on campus and I have discovered the hidden secret that never fails! Before I reveal this secret here’s a list of how you can get involved:
- Join a sports team/ Intramural sports (even if you’ve never played)
- Join clubs/ create your own club
- Go to CAB/ RA events
- Go to other events put on by the school (like discussions, guest speakers, leadership conferences, and even lunch with the President)
- Have your own radio show

Here’s how being involved has effected me.
